While I Wait

Waiting for the laundry to finish in the dryer, I drew these flowers. I don’t know what they’re called. They are purple and very delicate.

I made a little catnip stocking with bells in it for Sophie. She really likes it, and it seems to be a good size as she can grab the little hook/curl part at the end. The catnip helps. I’ve really been enjoying gold/mustard, navy, white, and grey all together. Kind of influenced by The Royal Tenenbaums. I’m planning on making a few more of these as gifts and maybe to put up on my etsy store [not in business yet]. Perhaps some regular sized stockings as well.

Today I’m not feeling very well and it’s a good day for reading. The wind is flailing the trees’ limbs about like limp spaghetti and the rushing noise of a tarp outside gives quite a dramatic effect. Very good for reading. I think I’ll start The Moon and Sixpence. Yes, most likely.

I’ve had this idea for a stocking ever since the Anthropologie Christmas sale last year. They had some really cool looking stockings and I thought… $14! I can make that. Okay $14 is a deal at Anthropologie, but when I feel like I can make something instead of buying it, I get this indignant feeling like I’m being overcharged. Anyway, today I made a pattern and then put together my first Christmas stocking. It isn’t exactly what I had in mind, but it’s the first one and I’m still working out some kinks. I want to do a lot more embellishment and make it funkier. But this is a pretty good start. Another thing I want to do is keep away from the traditional red and green. While I like the combo, it’s a little too predictable, don’t ya think?
Speaking of Anthropologie, the little green crocheted grapes are from a dishtowel I got on slasher sale from them quite a while ago. Even though I made the dishtowel into a pillow, all the grapes fell off. I guess they were too dainty for that kind of experience. All the rest of the material was thrifted.
