The Dude. The Bathrobe.
Okay, actually I’ve only seen The Big Lebowski once ever. This is heresy to many. He wears a bathrobe a lot in that movie. In fact, The Bagdad shows the movie at least once a year at which time Portlanders line up around the block dressed in an array of bathrobes. That’s the only reason I mention it at all. For the bathrobe transition.

I finished this up today. Most of it was complete a month ago, but I ran out of fabric. Ah! I hate it when that happens. Double hate it when all the local stores carry every colorway except the one I was using. I ended up finding a yard of it on Etsy. The seller overlooked my order and it took almost a month to get here. But this enabled me to finish pretty much everything except the front of the bathrobe. All it took was a bit of assembly and voila!

The back of the waist tie is held in place by fabric covered buttons. The waist is made of the three fabrics I used: Asha by Kaffe Fasset, a Japanese floral (Can’t find the name), and the red stripe fabric I got from Tiffany.

All the seam allowances are covered in bias binding either made from the Asha or Japanese fabric. Those two fabrics were purchases from Repro Depot almost two years ago, I think. I knew I was going to make a bathrobe with it, but I just didn’t get around to it until now!

I added pockets in the side with just white fabric. I couldn’t decide on a print, so I just went with plain old white. It’s not like the bathrobe is hurting for another print. The pattern I used was my own, and I didn’t make a muslin for it because heck, I wasn’t gonna be bothered with it. Good thing it worked out just fine :)

1) The Bathrobe looks great!
2) I love The Big Lebowski! I have seen it 2 3/4 times. I don’t think I would line up around the block in a bathrobe for it though.

Oh my god this is prettiest bathrobe I’ve ever seen. I love your mixture of prints and think your use of the buttons on the belt is extremely clever. Did you happen to see that somewhere because this is the first I’ve ever seen anything like it?

Thank you ladies! :) So glad you like it!
The buttons were my idea as far as I know. I was just looking for a way to hold the tie in place without putting loops on. The self covered buttons are a little bit heavy for this fabric because I didn’t line the bathrobe, so it sags a little. If you try something like this, I’d’ suggest doing it with equal weight buttons & fabric to avoid the sag.
