Happy Christmas!

December 25, 2009

I hope you are having a great day! Here are some pictures from so far today. I’ll be sure to catch a shot of the mint fudge ripple ice cream Chris is making later.

I made a bathrobe for Chris with some really great flannel. He hammed it up for the photos:

And with the leftovers I made him a scarf. The slippers were too small :( So I’ll have to try that again with proper measurements, not surreptitiously outlining his shoes.

Enjoy the day! :)

Socks have eaten my brain

December 22, 2009

… but somehow I’m still functioning! Chris and I went over to the Kitten the other day. He picked out some nice blue yarn and boy from now on I’m sticking to thick yarn socks. It knits up so quickly! Just look at this, I started it on Saturday and have worked on it for comparatively little time.

It’s a nice superwash wool. I don’t know what that means, but it sure feels nice. I’m very close to finishing the dark blue pair I started over a year ago. The second sock was started at the end of October, so I’m pretty happy to have come so far. My sock knitting skills are quickening.

I picked up several skeins of this brown yarn at an estate sale a few months ago. I’m making two pairs of socks with it with this pattern. The plan is to make them slipper socks with a contrasting toe as well as ruffle around the ankle. I’m thinking about putting felt pads on the bottom. We shall see.

I’m really enjoying knitting socks right now. It’s nice to have several projects going at once. While it is infinitely cheaper and less time consuming to purchase socks, there’s a wonderful sense of accomplishment once a pair is done. I feel as though I have just made something I will use again & again, that is both useful and cute.

I may not be posting again until after Christmas. And, dear reader, I hope you are having a good holiday season! Thank you for reading my blog :)
