The Story Girl

My tiny desk

December 18, 2009

close up

I haven’t put together a space for my computer in my studio yet. Right now I’m using this little fold out desk to do all my computing.

whole picture

You can see it’s a tiny little writing desk. It’s a part of a split secretary. I guess that’s what you’d call it. One half has shelves in it and this half is a fold out desk with a drawer and a shelf-type thing. It was in the family so I’m thinking this is at least 100 years old. I always wished to find a secret compartment but if there is one, it’s extremely secret.

Huzzah! First Pair of Knitted Socks!

socks

I’m so excited! After many, many starts and stops my first pair of socks is done! It was quite a feat (haha get it? feat, feet). Ok, well it was difficult going with that heel, but after redoing it about a bazillion times, I think I’ve got the heel mastered. And halfway through the second one (on my right foot) I decided to knit correctly and you can definitely tell the stitch is different. I’m about 4″ away from finishing the second of another pair. These days I’m really enjoying sitting in front of the fire and knitting. I did it two days in a row. Love it.

More things are going on craftywise but I can’t tell you right now. I’m sorry things have been so quiet around the blog and flickr, moving into a new house is more time consuming that I had imagined. All is well, just haven’t been up to blogging at the end of the day. I’ll try to be better after the holidays. Aaand there’ll be a chance to score a little bit of vintage 70s calico fabric. De-stashing is definitely happenin’ around here. Stay tuned!

p.s. All knitting success is dedicated to Ms. Elena Gold, knitting genius and friend.

You Dirty Rat!

December 7, 2009

I bought these chucks about seven years ago from ebay. They were used, even made in America. Wow. So they are ancient. They’ve been my trusty soldiers, but as you can tell, they are way past retirement. I still love that peachy color, but sadly they are falling apart. I’ve been on the search for some replacements.

I found them on sale at Urban Outfitters. The color is a little bit greyer and muted. They are sweet! I hope they last as long as my lovely peach ones.
