The Story Girl

Winter Rust Dress

full view

Phew! Finally done with this dress. I cut everything out and had finished half the lining right before we moved. Then this baby sat around until Tuesday when I picked it up and all but hemmed it. I’m so glad I found the motivation to finish it. I’m sorry about the grainy pictures, I need to consult my camera manual.

front open

It’s the same pattern I drafted for the olive green dress. Except this is fully lined. Both the fabrics I purchased at Knittn Kitten last year (two years ago? a year and a half?).

shoulder

I did a lot of top stitching, and used a double needle to go over the middle shoulder seam, so there’d be stitching on either side of it.

top

It looks like it has wings while on the dress form. I assure, that’s not so when I wear it. The shoulders are somewhat sloped, actually, and conform to my own. Also, things look kind of wonky the form because the form itself is wonky. But it’s cute, right?

lining

The lining has lions and crowns on it. Very regal! It also unraveled like crazy, so I used the serger quite a bit while I was working with it, although you can’t see it on the hem once I did that. I really want to go back and cover the inside of the wool hem. All I had was some pink lace hem tape and I didn’t want to use that. The last thing I made was the belt. I’m going to wear it tonight & I’ll try to get Chris to take a picture of me in it. I also saw a dress made with similar fabric at Anthro, and considered making this a button front, but decided against it.

This is a gorgeous, gorgeous dress! I am a little sad there is no pattern. I would love to make it! The shoulder gathers are just great.

The fabric you used for the lining is a most excellent find. Hurray for the knittn kitten!

Thank you! Maybe one day I will get around to making patterns or selling the dresses I make :)
