Ties & Gathers

I’m in the process of making some spring-summer clothes for myself. I finally perfected a slightly loose-fitting shirt pattern that can be modified in different ways. For this particular style, I moved the bust dart to the neck, then slashed and spread the dart across the neckline. The shirt is finished with French seams and bias binding. It’s simple and rather quick to make.

So far, I’ve made it in vintage white swiss-dot cotton, Liberty of London (with added princess sleeves), and red & white stripe silk. I need to re-do the gathers on the silk. You can see how it poofs out too much. The gathers need to be spread out a bit more and be closer to the keyhole.

I bought some purplish grey voile for another shirt, maybe I’ll make it 3/4 sleeves. I like this shirt because it’s slightly draped but not too much to be unflattering for my figure. I have an unphotographed version in calico with the bust darts, and a pleated bib inset. Maybe I should do that with the voile. Hm… I like this idea.
