Inspiration Overload

raspberries

I’ve been reading a lot of blogs for a few years. Many of them packed with beautiful photos and ideas. I’ve recently been trimming back my list because I’ve started to feel overwhelmed. So much creativity instead of being inspiring actually makes me feel crippled. Do you know what I mean? I begin to compare myself to how productive and amazing these other women are, instead of separating myself from the equation.

I found that I also get addicted to reading blogs and just being on the internet too long. Time becomes inconsequential and I end up using that precious time to be “inspired” rather than do the creative things I think of. So many amazing women are out there blogging and I feel like I have to keep up somehow. Yikes! That definitely doesn’t work.

So I’m paring down my list some more, and allocating more time to hanging out in my studio. I got rid of a few social networking sites I belonged to and things already feel better. What kinds of things work for you to keep you from being distracted? How do you feel about blog reading and creativity? Is it really possible to be too inspired?

I know exactly how you feel – I spend soooo much more time reading blogs than actually doing any sewing. But I love feeling inspired, even if that inspiration isn’t actually put to productive use!

This is a very timely post, Caitlin. I’ve been feeling the same inspiration overload recently. It definitely seems that the more I’ve participated in flickr and blogging, the more overwhelmed I’ve come to feel. It’s such a dilemma because I don’t necessarily want to give up either of those sites/activities completely, but I don’t know where to draw the line. Surely, there got to be a way to find a healthy balance, right? :-) … Although sometimes I think about unplugging completely and just spending all that time in my studio. Wouldn’t that be glorious?! Well, if you figure out a good solution, let me know!
