Finished Socks
December 15, 2010
Yes! I finished the socks for my dad. In the second sock I forgot to add the thread yarn to the toe but remembered it in the heel at least. They’ve been packaged and are on their way. I used the Men’s Socks for Giving Away pattern from Purl Soho’s blog. Really like that pattern. It’s good too, if you’re wanting to up your knitting skills. They take great pictures and give clear instructions. Both things that come in handy when learning!
Mail Alert!
December 14, 2010
My friend Caitlin (same spelling, yes!) and I have had a light correspondence during her few months in France (okay one letter each). I received a letter from her with this cute detailed felt scarecrow she made, along with a little knot rope. She said that sailors used to make these knots to decorate their buttons. So neat! I want to decorate a button with it but I’m afraid of it falling off. I’ve been thinking of just pinning to a jacket instead. Thank you so much for the mail & little handmade goodies, Caitlin!
It’s looking a lot like Christmas!
December 13, 2010
This year I’ve really gotten into decorating for Christmas. I don’t know why because it’s never been my favorite holiday. I won’t tell you what my favorite holiday has always been because then you’ll know how selfish I am. Okay. It’s not really a holiday: my birthday. Ha! I know. I must be growing out of it or something. Our big tree has been so fun to make felt decorations for and wrapping the nice looking presents… I’ve just enjoyed it all.

I taped the snowflakes up above the table with some gold striped washi tape. They’re really pretty. When the heater comes on, some of the air blows right up above the table so that the flakes softly circle and sway.

Rosemary bushes are plentiful in Portland. You can see them in the majority of yards, including my own. Chelsea blogged about little wreaths she made which is what inspired me to make this one. So I cut off a few branches of my rosemary bush and made this fun wreath. I didn’t have any florist wire so I just used the green wires that came with the Christmas tree lights. That worked just fine. The rose hips were a little spikey so I there was a little bit of blood, but that doesn’t really bother me any more since it happens with sewing (pins and needles… ow!).

And here’s my lovely, wonky tree!
